Four outstanding young women represented Southern Pine Electric at the Youth Leadership Workshop sponsored by Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi. Ruby Sage Rogers of Presbyterian High School, Claire Hennington of Union High School, Emma Grace Thomas of Morton High School, and Carlee Harrell of Seminary High School were selected from 30 students who participated in Southern Pine’s Cooperative University in December.
High school leaders from all over the state converged at the Westin in downtown Jackson for a three-day leadership event. The workshop focused on developing leadership traits, building camaraderie and teamwork, and working towards a common goal. The 81 high school juniors had breakfast with their state legislators, toured the capitol, and asked questions of a bi-partisan legislative panel.
“All of the students were outstanding at the workshop, and these four leaders represented their families and Southern Pine well in everything they did,” said Steve Bryant, communications coordinator at Southern Pine. “Watching these young people participate in leadership activities showed all the advisors that we are in great hands for the future.”
The workshop is a preamble to the Youth Tour of Washington, D.C., sponsored by Mississippi’s electric cooperatives. Each co-op selects and supports students at the workshop and with the all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C.
